What Are Culture Sessions?
Most interviews fail…
They fail because the interviewer is too busy checking the boxes of experience, degrees, certificates, grades, titles, advancement, authority and how quickly a person catches on.
There is ample evidence which clearly shows most employment relationships fail not because of poor performance in the hard skills, but because of a misalignment of core values, goals and culture.
I’ve conducted thousands of interviews, many with young people fresh out of school or nearly out of school. Almost all of them begin with a resume and the prospect’s expectation of a tough interview discussion about GPA’s, career goals and how they can help move the company forward. Then I turn the discussion upside down...and we talk about their core values, their dreams, their interests and the type of culture and organization they hope to be a part of.
I’ve learned that culture, core values and dreams trump all of the hard skills. I have also learned finding people who do things like us is worth the extra effort.
Culture Sessions is a place for students to tell their story...about their work, their habits, their ideas and where they are going. It’s a thirty minute conversation which dives into core values, dreams and what they plan to do to get there. I hope you find them as interesting as I do.
